Start with the vehicle
Record the plate, issuing jurisdiction, ticket number, amount and issue date shown on the notice. Check the plate state and vehicle record before looking for a renter. Keep the original notice with the case.
Compare the full rental window
Find the agreement for that vehicle whose pickup and return dates contain the issue time. Use the time zone printed on the notice when one is available. A match based on the date alone deserves a closer look if the car changed hands that day.
Send handoff days to review
A ticket on a pickup or return day may belong to the previous renter, the next renter or your own team. Check timestamps, check-in photos and vehicle movement records before assigning it. If the evidence is incomplete, leave the assignment unresolved.
Keep a clear record
Save the notice, agreement, matching evidence and your decision together. Review the rental agreement and any applicable platform rules before seeking reimbursement. Track whether the charge was disputed or paid so it is not billed twice.
